Bags of Hope Pali View hands out to those in need.
NEW MINISTRY AT PALI VIEW

Melody Nakamura

PVBC -- (Pastor Steve Irvin) We are all aware of the problem of homelessness and hunger which is all around us, people standing on street corners, in front of stores and restaurants, at the beach, asking for help. We want to help but may not be comfortable giving them money for fear of what it may be used for.

In response to this need, we at Pali View we are trying to do something about it called, Bags of Hope. These are bags which contain things like a bottle of water, canned fruit, package of ramen, Vienna sausage, crackers, granola bar, a spoon or fork, and a gospel tract. In essence it is one days worth of food. These bags are meant to be carried in your car so that when you see someone in need, you can simply give the person a bag of hope.

Bags of Hope are available at the back of the chapel so feel free to pick one up and give it away. It is a small but simple way to help someone who may be hungry and take seriously Jesus words in Matthew 25:35, "I was hungry and you gave me something to eat."

If you would like to help provide food for these bags, here is a list of the types of items we want to include:

• Granola Bars
• Bottled water (half liter)
• Cup of Ramen/ Instant Lunch (the kind in a bowl)
• Can of Vienna Sausage
• Cup of fruit/ Apple sauce

Packs of snack crackers (cheese/peanut butter

Answering the Call by Melody Nakamura
I know that for me, having the bags of hope has been a great way to answer the call to minister to those in need.

Before the bags of hope I use to pray the light would stay green so that I would have to stop and face my discomfort of pretending not to see "them" (the least of these).

Know that I now carry a bag of hope in my car and I pray for red lights so that I may minister to the least of these brothers and sisters.

Matthew 25:40 "...whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me" and 25:45 "...I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for the least of these, you did not do for me."

As the Monk & Neagle song says "if we are the body and drink of the wine we need to look for Jesus in everyone."

Jesus is always there for me and thus I need to introduce others to my savior and theirs.
